The How to... of Gifting!

"It is the intention, not the face-value of the gift, that's weighed"

Any gift is good as long as it is given from the heart! Point noted. But, I wish the world we live in was really as simple. It is surprising how many efforts some of us put in choosing a gift when it comes to some one special or important in our lives. I have seen people searching malls and shops for months to find just the perfect gift. Most of them however have no clue as to what should be their final pick.
But, some of us who do get lucky and manage to find our prized masterpiece mess it up by presenting it in such a horrendous way that, it becomes an inexcusable sin.
Here is my take!
First and foremost, never give a gift unclothed, I mean unwrapped unless it is a jumbo sized couch.
Yes! Always cover your gift. First tip is masking the gift. It has two advantages. One, it adds an element of surprise to a simple mundane act. Second, it certainly demonstrates the effort you have put in the ordeal. If nothing else just cover it with news daily.

Second tip is a bit tricky and I can’t really help much here. It all depends on the imminence of your relationship. Always write a note. It could be few lines of appreciation or just a thank you note. Words can surely be manipulated to get desired results though. I would suggest you take some professional help in composing the note if the situation is tricky. I guarantee the receiver is going to read the message more then twice to get the undertones! Note or message is usually perceived as authentication of you feeling. Moreover, it is simply more personal! So, “NEVER” forget to write a note!

Third one is for the closest sphere of family and loved ones. You can use a little imagination here. No matter how unique a gift is but if the recipient has to work a bit to get it he will surely value it more. And yes, by work I do not mean you put a term of doing 100 crunches before presenting the gift.
One last thing, try to keep a gift as personal as possible if it is meant for someone who is very close or a family member. Try and present it when the recipient is unaccompanied.
There will be a clear sense of happiness once you see your exclusive gift being cherished and used by that exclusive person.

Hopefully this will help you in your endeavor.

Gifting is a Good thing!

Just think about the last time you gave a gift?  Was it an exclusive gift? Was it for some one who mattered?  Was it a bottle of wine or a branded watch you picked on the season sale or a fancy perfume you received from your female colleague last year on your birthday? Which, under all probabilities, she also received from someone on her birthday…

What is a perfect gift if at all it exists?

Has gift really become such a mystery and gift giving a tedious process?

If you ask me for the definition of gift it is simply a gesture of affection and appreciation for a person. You can communicate your feelings in a zillion ways. How complicated can it get?

But, gift giving is a social phenomenon too. And, in today’s time, gifts have become a social tool. Gifts are offered to get favours! Small gifts for small favours and expensive gifts for the big ones.
But are gifts really that important? I mean gift is a gift is a gift! You go to a shop pick a bottle of wine or perfume, gift wrap it and you are done.

Well, if you think it is that simple then think again! Gifts are personal. And as humans we can’t help analyzing a gift and rate it for its worth. Simply put, a bouquet of flowers is one thing but a bouquet of “Exotic flowers” is quite another.

In the upcoming blogs I will try and unravel the mysteries of so called “perfect gifts”.. till then,
HAPPY GIFTING!
